Handmade silver leaf pendant with boulder opal

A unique and beautiful handcrafted sterling silver pendant, set with an Australian boulder opal from Koroit in North Queensland and 18 Karat Gold granulations.

The rich natural texture in the silver pendant is achieved by a process called reticulation, and is only found on handmade silver jewellery

It involves heating the silver numerous times and scrubbing the metal to remove the copper from the surface.

This eventualy results in a thin layer of pure silver at the surface of the piece, and so the melting point of the surface is slightly higher than the core of the metal, and acts like a thin skin under which the molten silver flows and results in an often unpredictable surface texture.
